The Origins
The origins of the Corso Dog are very remote,
It is thought that it is the descendant of the ancient Roman Molossian (Canix Pugnax).
The name Cane Corso doesn't have to deceive!
It doesn't take the name from the island of Corsica,
but from an ancient Greek word "Kortos"
which means "Courtyard"
and from the Latin Cohors: "Keeper and Protector"
Therefore the Course is the courtyard dog ,
or the keeper and the defender
of the fenced property.
Since remote times it has been known in Italy, above all in the south,
and it was used in the farms as watch dog,
as cattleman, goatherd, and even as
conductor and custodian of the flocks.
In the ancient castles it was used
to defend the noble families,
the treasures of court and following the wagons.
It was also used as big game hunting dog, above all for the wild boar hunting.
